After the whole Spectre controversy where the Censor Board wanted James Bond to kiss a little less and not use abusive language, the Board has pulled out its scissors again, now on the movie Angry Indian Goddesses. But the makers wanted to put out their message loud and clear. So they released the censored portion of the film on Facebook. After all these legal ruckus from last one month the film has made it to online before its actual release on June 17. Two days before only the film censor copy has been leaked online and now it has been speculated that there is someone from the Censor Board department who has leaked this film. At some places a 40 minutes DVD print is available and at certain websites the whole movie is available.

Recently, we all know that the Censor board has demanded as many as 89 cuts from the movie. So the producer has approached first to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal in a hope that the movie will pass through censor board but it didn’t happened. After that the makers have approached to Bombay High Court for the justice and the Court has announced the verdict in favour of the film. The High Court has given it decision where it clearly mention that only one scene has to be cut down from the movie.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh and Kareena Kapoor Khan in titular roles. The movie has not yet got it’s new certificate from the Censor Board and this leaked movie case is certainly create big issue in the days to come. Producer doesn’t blame the board, says it could have happened anywhere down the line; reveals the highest grossing Marathi film will be remade in Telugu and Gujarati.
It is not every day that you hear of a Marathi film doing a business of Rs 50 crore-plus in two weeks with the second week’s collections higher than the first. And it’s not every day that you come across a censor copy downloaded on Torrent. Nitin Keni, one of the three producer of Sairat which opened on April 29 and after breaking the biggest weekend opener record of Natsamrat, admits that he is aware that a pirated print of the censor copy has been making the rounds and has registered a complaint with DCP of the Mumbai Crime Cell. “I think they have stopped the circulation now though some prints may still be around,” says Keni.
However, he is quick to add that it does not mean that it necessarily came from the censor office. “From the source to the transportation and the censor screening, the leak could have happened anywhere. It has happened with other films in the past. And yes, it has affected business by at least 10 per cent. The film is doing amazingly well and those who are not getting tickets would watch it at home. Also, non-Maharashtrians are suddenly curious to see the film and they are lost to me,” he sighs, admitting that the only way to curb this menace is encryption which is an expensive process but which ensures that without the code, you have no access to the film.
Ashoke Pandit, a member of the Censor Board, is appalled, 'A censor copy being leaked is a matter of grave concern and needs to be looked into. The leak could have happened anywhere but it was a copy meant for the censors.'
Meanwhile, Keni is in talks with industry folks to partner with him for Telugu and Gujarati remakes. Writer, director and co-producer Nagraj Manjule wrote Sairat based on his own experiences as a classic love story and set it in is own village Jeur in the Karmala Taluka in Solapur.
It revolves around the low-caste Parshya (played by Akash Thosar) who falls in love with Archie (Rinku Rajguru), the daughter of a rich upper-caste landlord. She reciprocates his feelings knowing that their relationship will not be accepted. The couple is faced with violence and many challenges before they leave for the city.
Pointing out that if you discount the rural background and the rustic music, films like this have been made in Hindi before like Bobby and Ishaqzaade, Keni argues that they have targeted Tollywood because the lovers run away to Hyderabad and Guajarati because the difference between the commercial community and the impoverished in the state is marked, more so in Saurashtra.
Keni who reveals that he has plans to make three-four regional films every year, admits that he'd expected Sairat to earn around Rs 25 crore but it has become the first Marathi film to cross the half century mark.
“I watched it in a few theatres and was heartened to see viewers dance in the aisles during the songs and return to their seats after that. Owners of some theatres have reported damages and one person told me that after Mother India, Sholay and Gadar, we now have Sairat. It’s belied all our expectations despite it being a regional film,” Keni beams.

NO CHANGE OF DATE FOR RUSTOM YET
Nitin Keni who is also one of the many producers of the Akshay Kumar-starrer period drama, Rustom, also insists that despite recent speculations, they have not moved the release date of the film to avoid a clash with Hrithik Roshan’s period romance, Mohenjo Daro. “As of now it’s still August 12. We announced the date first. Yes, we have been talking to Ashutosh Gowarikar (producer-director of Mohenjo Daro) but there’s been no decision taken on changing the date. They haven’t even begun their promotions yet.”
